About David Paul
David Paul Norvell was born in Beloit, Wisconsin in 1960, but did not study art seriously until the mid 1980's, when he enrolled at the Art Student's League of New York.  Among his instructors were Lisa Specht, Dean Keller and ultimately, Nelson Shanks.

"Although Lisa gave me a sense of the aesthetic and Dean a method for observing form, my five years with Nelson were the most productive for my growth as a painter.  There have been few genuine masters living in our time.  Studying under one of them was a rare opportunity for a superior education in painting."

Strong composition and a colorful sense of light characterize David's work.

"Whether my goal is a work of intellectual relevance or a simple study of what's in front of me, an aesthetic quality should pervade the piece.  It's not about glossing over ugliness, but rather seeing something of beauty in the ordinary or apparently hideous, and introducing the world to it."

David's work is appreciated in private collections in North and South America, as well as in Europe and Japan.  He is currently pursuing an advanced degree in digital media.
