The Bison

The American Bison is known for protecting virtually any animal that hangs with the herd, especially the young ones. In the Missouri rurals, where mountain lions are beginning to make their presence felt, vulnerable cows giving birth attract the big cats. Ranchers will sometimes add a few head of bison to the heard, and the cougars keep their distance.
